Perhaps it’s because it’s the Halloween season. Perhaps because it’s fall and the days are shortening, but I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about shadows and how we can use them in lighting design. The lack of light can be just as interesting as the light itself. Using Shadows can create visual interest in spaces that otherwise would be a plain vanilla box. Shadows can also be very detrimental to your lighting design. If you don’t see where the shadow is going to be, it can appear right where your client needs the illumination most. Shadows are something to pay attention to. There are a couple of new fixtures we have that use light and shadow to create interest.
